A special concert series to benefit a Hazleton-based alcoholism and drug treatment center will bring nationally and internationally known recording artists to Northeast Pennsylvania this spring.

Al Schnier and Vinnie Amico from moe. will play in the Rock the Walls Benefit Concert Series under the name of their side project Floodwood.

Floodwood will hit the stage at the River Street Jazz Cafe in Plains on April 15.

Nadïne LaFond will join the benefit on April 29 at the jazz cafe. She is best known as lead vocalist and co-songwriter with Swampadelica.

But thats just a fraction of the music, some of the musicians are local favorites who have offered to help save lives by raising money for Serento Gardens Alcoholism and Drug Treatment Center in Hazleton.

Three concerts are planned for the River Street Jazz Cafe and two are scheduled at the clubhouse at Beech Mountain Lakes, Drums.

The five-event concert series, drummed up by Hazleton native Robert Filbert, will begin March 11 at the River Street Jazz Cafe and wrap up May 19 at Beech Mountain.

Ed Pane, CEO of Serento Gardens, said the concert series started as a fundraising idea to buy 3,000 pieces of Sheetrock for the new building the center plans to move to at 13-15 W. Broad St., Hazleton. He said Mr. Filbert was able to grow it into a five-event concert series aimed at bolstering Serento’s operating budget.

Mr. Pane said the treatment center, like many others across the nation, continues to struggle through budget cuts that can mean life-and-death situations for many.
