Today North Carolina’s The Collection released “GET LOST” – an upbeat, sticky pop song about stepping out of the proverbial boxes set by others in order to find your true self. About the song, lead singer David Wimbish said, “I’ve learned the most about who I am in the times I’ve gotten ‘lost’ from my path and the expectations of others. There have been many times, whether around substance, getting divorced, or coming out, where folks have told me that I’ve, ‘lost my way’ – and they hope that I will, ‘find my way back.’ So this song is really about that experience – a kind of response for anyone who’s ever been scolded for discovering their own expression.” Writing the song came quickly for Wimbish. The melody came to him not in a writing session, but while he was out on a run trying to clear his head. “The melody and chords came first. I’ve done some complex chord progressions for the last few years and wanted to change it up – I was going for something super simple.” The chorus tumbled in as he settled back into the writer’s room later that afternoon and the song was finished in a matter of hours. “It was fun one to write because at its core, it’s got that simplicity I was going for – but I think it gets interesting and sticky because of the melodies around that simplicity]” This is the Saxapahaw, NC outfit’s third independently-released single this year following the pop anthem, “Loud” (April) and soft winter ditty, “Blue Day” (February). For the mix, the band once again tapped Stephen Price (Charlie Hunter, Chad Lawson) at Price’s studio in High Point, NC. Off the back of their first two singles, streaming momentum and despite some COVID-related tour cancellations, the band picked up an appearance at Shaky Knees festival in Atlanta (OCT 22), are supporting Larkin Poe in 1,000-capacity theaters and have an East Coast headline tour in NOV. The Collection is a 2019 NPR Tiny Desk Judge’s Pick and have released 3 records independently.
