Kimock – Steve Kimock Sets Out on Father/Son Tour with John Kimock
Beginning tomorrow, March 2 in Sebastopol at the Hopmonk Tavern, before heading down to the Central Coast’s Kuumbwa Jazz for a Friday evening performance in Santa Cruz, Steve Kimock is setting out on tour to debut his new father/son project, simply called, “Kimock.” Along with his son John Morgan Kimock on drums, this new intimate ensemble will also include his all too well known bass player Bobby Vega and special guest vocalist Leslie Mendelson. Shows are scattered throughout California before the quartet heads out to the East Coast through early April. For tour information, visit http://www.kimock.com/shows/
We all recognize Steve Kimock from over four decades of his signature guitar sound playing with Zero, KVHW and The Steve Kimock Band as well as stints with Phil Lesh and Friend, The Other Ones, Rhythm Devils and Rat Dog. But, this latest project is going to show a different side of this incredible guitar player and composer.
His newest release, Last Danger of Frost, is set to be out to listeners in mid-March. This 11 track journey into the mind and soul was was recorded last winter at his century-old barn in Pennsylvania before moving back to California. This new project is largely acoustic music, rather than that psychedelic jam rock that Steve has been known for decades now. With ambient guitar and mystical sounds, it is ethereal and moody and sets a beautiful tone for exploration of the mind and spirit. “There are other spaces and experiences music flows into, fills, and conforms to: family, nature, travel, quiet study and contemplation, imagination, to name a few. For me, the balance of the music has shifted to ‘other,’” Kimock says.
This new ensemble, Kimock, will allow fans to have a listening experience that spotlights Steve’s remarkable tone in an intuitive flow of Eastern and Western folk music, genres that have long influenced his playing. With Bobby Vega on bass adding 30 years of musical chemistry and groovy collaboration, the musical connection you can only get with family brings son John to the drums, and the addition of vocalist Leslie Mendelson, whom Kimock has been working and composing, ticket holders will surely be welcomed to “lean in, listen and experience the symbiosis.”
Tickets for this Friday, March 4, 2016 at Kuumbwa Jazz are $27.00 and available through Pulse Productions at www.pulseproductions.net Doors set to open at 7:30 pm.
