The Petaluma Music Festival, a highly regarded music festival on the west coast, takes place on Saturday, August 6th, 2016, at the Sonoma-Marin Fairgrounds & Event Center in Petaluma.
Festival goers are always treated to a family-friendly event with a unique variety of indie-band music for people of all ages, with festival performances by national acts like Trombone Shorty, Galactic, The Devil Makes Three, The Wood Brothers, Nahko and Medicine for the People, and Xavier Rudd.
This year, jam band fans are getting a bit of a dream lineup; performing this year are roots-rock bluesman Jackie Greene (who played the Petaluma Music Festival back in 2012), the psychedelic rock of Steve Kimock & Friends, the California rock and soul of The Mother Hips, the jam band Americana of the David Nelson Band, folk-roots and jam band Moonalice, local Americana-folk singer-songwriter David Luning, the pure dance funk of Joy & Madness, the gritty and high-energy folk of The Sam Chase, and artist-at-large-Mark Karan. Joining these headliners are Bay Area favorites The Highway Poets, Kingsborough, MoeTar, The Melt, Saffell, and The Grain.
Festival goers can also enjoy fest-things like a silent auction, a celebrity autographed guitar raffle, a kids area, free drinking water, and a variety of specialty food, craft, and merchandise vendors. The presenting community partner is the Lagunitas Brewing Company.
The Petaluma Music Festival is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to “keeping music in the schools.” Held for the first time in 2008, all festival proceeds benefit the music education programs in all Petaluma area public schools. In 2015, the festival was able to raise 25,000, and, in the last six years, the Petaluma Music Festival has donated over $145,000 to keeping music in the schools. They are looking to increase that number in 2016 with a goal o 30,000.
Tickets are $45 for General Admission and children 12 and under are free with a paying adult. Ticket prices will increase on the day of festival. Students 13-17 can purchase $20 tickets at the door.
